# Honeycomb Build — `honeycomb-build@1.0.0`

A honeycomb built cell by cell: wax walls rise from the middle outward, fill with glossy honey, drain and sink away. Loops perfectly.

A honeycomb built cell by cell. Hexagonal wax walls rise from the middle outward, each cell then fills with glossy honey, the honey drains and the walls sink again, so the loop starts and ends on an empty board. Choose the number of rings of cells, the wax colour (beeswax, white, dark or green), how deep the cells are, the seed that varies their heights, the backdrop colour and whether the camera sways.

- Role: Object (3D, three.js): a warm, natural construction loop for food, nature and craft content.
- Implementation: three; entry `src/honeycomb-build.js`

- Dependencies (exact): `three@0.185.1` (source) — Renderer, geometry and shader materials.; `chrome-material@1.1.0` (demo) — Studio environment light, backdrop and contact shadow.; `apw-runtime@1.0.0` (demo) — Demo harness.

## Exports
- `createHoneycomb({ rings?, wax?, depth?, seed? }) => { group, size, setProgress(progress), dispose() }` — The comb of instanced wax walls and honey fills on a hexagonal board, resting on y = 0; needs an environment map.
- `WAXES: { beeswax, white, dark, green }` — Wax and honey colours.

## Parameters
- `rings` (integer 2–6, default 4) — Rings: Rings of cells round the middle one.
- `wax` (select one of beeswax | white | dark | green, default "beeswax") — Wax
- `depth` (number 0.5–1.6, default 1) — Cell depth
- `seed` (integer 1–999, default 3) — Seed
- `background` (color, default "#201810") — Backdrop
- `orbit` (boolean, default true) — Camera sway

## Composition
- Inputs: Time within the loop; the rings, wax, depth, seed, backdrop and camera sway.
- Outputs: A full frame rendered in 3D with a studio environment.
- Coordinates: The comb is centred on the origin, base on y = 0, cells of circumradius 0.5 in pointy-top hexagons; the camera looks down at about 54°.
- Lighting: A warm key light with a shadow map, a shadow-catching floor and the studio environment.
- Timing: setProgress(progress) sets every wall and honey height; frames render in any order.
- Works with: chrome-material, orbit-camera, kinetic-title, number-reveal
- Walls are one instanced extruded hex ring per cell; honey is one instanced hex prism per cell.

## Output and loop
- 1080×1080, 30 fps, 16 s, procedural
- Seamless loop: yes — Each cell's walls rise, its honey fills and drains and the walls sink in windows set by its distance from the middle, so every cell is empty at the first and last frames and the camera sway is a sine of the loop, so the last frame meets the first.
- Verified 2026-10-06 in Chrome 154.0.8037.97 headless on Linux 7.0.0-38-generic (x64), Node 22.14.0 (WebGL 2 via SwiftShader (software)); deterministic: yes; loop check: Frame 0 vs end state (progress 1): mean |Δ| 0.0000, max |Δ| 0 of 255.

## Use it
New project: Create a WebGLRenderer with a studio environment and a shadow-casting light, add createHoneycomb().group and call comb.setProgress(progress) each frame.

Existing project: Copy src/honeycomb-build.js; add the group to your scene with an environment map.

Reuse ideas:
- Honey brand: Beeswax, four rings.
- Clean modern: White wax, six rings.
- Moody: Dark wax, deep.

## Limitations
- The honey is a flat-topped prism, not a liquid that wets the walls.
- Cells are regular hexagons; real combs are slightly irregular.

Provenance: Adapted from the owner's threejs-sketches/objects-scenes/honeycomb-build (MIT) and rebuilt for AI Pixel Wizard in October 2026 as an original studio object: hex-ring wall prisms and honey fills that rise, fill, drain and sink in windows ordered from the middle outward, on an exact loop.
