Caught on a security camera at 3 a.m.

Grainy security-camera clips with a ticking timestamp, where something is standing in the hallway that was not there a second ago, are the found-footage format of the Halloween season.

Fake security footage has been one of the most copied AI video formats for more than a year. It started with the bunnies on a backyard trampoline, and GetReal Security traced how kangaroos, bears and more copies followed. Every October the format turns to horror. The October 2026 trend roundup from Mean CEO lists eerie found-footage scenes, abandoned-place horror and clips that copy "old recordings, security-camera clips" among this month's styles. Found-footage horror series are also among r/aivideo's top posts this week.

Why it works

A high, fixed, wide camera with a clock in the corner reads as "nobody staged this". The low frame rate and grain hide detail, so your imagination fills in whatever is standing at the end of the corridor.

How this ingredient gives it to you

CCTV Night Cam puts anything you draw through a cheap night-time security camera. You can change the camera look (infrared black and white, green night vision or cheap colour), the wide-lens bulge, the camera frame rate, grain, compression blocks, softness and light glow. It also adds the recorder's display, with your own date, start time, camera number and camera name, a blinking REC and a motion box. The demo watches the Liminal Corridor from a corner camera. The lights cut out twice, and each time they come back a tall figure is standing closer.

Feed it your own AI clip to frame it as security footage. You can also film Rain on a Window or Thunderstorm through the colour camera for a stormy doorbell-cam shot.

The honest limit

The ingredient fixes the camera, not the content. If the motion in your clip is impossible, the clip will still look fake. And because this format is used to fake evidence, say clearly that your clip is fiction.

    Portraits made of text

Faces built from thousands of glowing characters, which decode out of noise and then type a line of text, are one of the signature looks of code-made AI video this fortnight.

    The exploded view is back

A camera lens that comes apart into labelled glass and rings passed three million views, and now jet engines, fans, teeth and houses are coming apart the same way.
